ROAD INFORMATION

 August 7 - 14, 2026   

South George Washington Way   –Drivers should expect overnight lane closures near the George Washington Way and Columbia Point Drive intersection beginning Tuesday, August 11, as crews install new roadway signs associated with the South George Washington Way Intersection Improvements Project. Work is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue until approximately 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 12. Crews will install cantilever signs on Columbia Point Drive east of the WinCo driveway entrance and on George Washington Way north of Benham Street. The work will require temporary lane closures on:

• Eastbound Columbia Point Drive
• Southbound George Washington Way
• Northbound George Washington Way south of the Columbia Point Drive intersection

Steptoe Street Closure – Beginning the evening of Friday, August 7, Steptoe Street will be closed between Canyon Street and the Columbia Park Trail roundabout. The closure is necessary to allow the project’s contractor to safely complete final paving of the intersection. Steptoe Street is expected to reopen to traffic on the morning of Saturday, August 8.  However, reopening could be impacted by site conditions or unforeseen delays. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead for their Friday evening or Saturday morning commute. Detours will be in place directing traffic via Leslie Road and Center Parkway. Local access to side streets off Steptoe Street will be maintained. Through traffic is restricted.  Pedestrian and bicycle detours will also be provided.  The west end of Tapteal Drive also remains closed. Traffic on Tapteal Drive is detoured via Center Parkway and Columbia Center Boulevard.  Motorists traveling through the area should anticipate delays and are encouraged to allow extra time. Please follow posted signage, and use designated detour routes.

Thayer Drive Streetlight Replacement –the contractor is working on site restoration.

South George Washington Way (between Comstock St. & Aaron Dr.) & Columbia Point Drive  – Periodic lane closures will continue intermittently as site restoration work continues on the east side of George Washington Way south of the Columbia Point intersection with various lane restrictions.

Roadway Construction on Reata Rd. between Southgate Way and Badger View Dr. – Construction started in Spring 2026 with work beginning along Reata Rd. between Southgate Way and Badger View Dr. This work is for a developer-driven project to construct a roundabout at the intersections of Reata Rd. & the future connection to Gage Blvd., as well as widening along Reata Rd. before tapering back to existing conditions. This is an ongoing project with an expected completion date in Summer 2026.  

City View Dr and Northeast part of Truman Ave (City View & Truman Buildout Project) – Contractor will be doing a full road construction and City View will be closed from the Duportail St intersection to just north of Benton County Emergency Management building and the northeast part of Truman Ave.  Detour going down Truman will be a right turn onto Queensgate and then a left turn onto Duportail, and the detour from Duportail will be a right turn onto Queensgate and then a left turn onto Truman.

The Parkway & Lee Blvd (between Jadwin Ave and George Washington Way) – The road will be closed to traffic from 6:30am–1:30pm each Friday through October for the Farmer’s Market.  Businesses in the Parkway will remain open.

2025 Residential Overlay Project - The project involves water service replacement and ADA ramps along the following locations:

• Snyder Street from Stevens Dr. to Harris St 
• Van Giesen Street from George Washington Way to Hunt Ave
• Hanford Street from George Washington Way to Davison Ave
• Logston Blvd from SR 240 to Robertson Dr

2026 Traffic Calming - Queensgate will have various partial closures from Shockley Rd to Summit St. Road may be reduced to a single lane with flaggers present along with some closures with detours, so expect some delays.

 Horn Rapid Road Closure for the Sewer Extension Project - Beginning Monday,  August 10, 2026 mid-day, a section of Horn Rapids Road between Stevens Drive and the Framatome entrance will be closed to through traffic as part of the City of Richland's North Horn Rapids Sewer Extension Project. The closure is expected to remain in place through mid-October, 2026, while crews install new sewer infrastructure and road reconstruction to support future growth and development in north Richland.  During construction, motorists will be detoured via Kingsgate Way, Battelle Boulevard, and Stevens Drive. Access to Framatome will remain available on Horn Rapids Road but only from the West (Kingsgate Drive direction).  Reader boards have been placed in the area to notify motorists of the upcoming closure. Framatome has also been informed of the project schedule and is communicating access information to employees.  The North Horn Rapids Sewer Extension Project will construct approximately 6,500 feet of sanitary sewer main and related infrastructure to expand sewer service capacity in the Horn Rapids area. The project is part of the City's ongoing efforts to support economic development and planned growth while maintaining reliable utility services.  Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow posted detour routes and traffic control devices throughout the construction period.
