Volunteers In Police Service

The Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) program was implemented in 1995.  Since the program started, Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS) have donated thousands of hours of community service to assist the Richland Police Department.

Program Goals

  • Enhancing our ability to provide quality service
  • Maintaining a proactive working relationship with citizens
  • Preventing crime
  • Sharing the common goal of effective public safety

VIPS Responsibilities

  • Working RPD events
  • Vehicle inspections and detailing
  • Assisting clerical staff
  • Assisting patrol officers
  • Distributing letters and fliers
  • Participating in the radar trailer deployments
  • Performing miscellaneous non-hazardous activities

VIPS Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old;
  • Complete the testing process (includes submitting an application, agree to undergo a background investigation, attend an oral board and if selected commit to donating a minimum of 5 hours per month.)
