What We Did in February

Across all eight elementary schools, trained staff observed morning drop-off to see how children were riding in vehicles. Between the two observation periods, families received safety education focused on:

• Kids under 13 riding in the back seat
• Proper use of booster seats until 4’9” tall
• Washington State child passenger safety law
• Why booster seats reduce injury risk in crashes

This approach helped us measure real-world behavior and understand where families need more support.

What We’re Learning

By collecting data from eight schools, Safest Ride gives us a district-wide snapshot of child passenger safety behaviors. These results help us:

• Identify where booster seat use is strong
• See where families may need more resources or education
• Guide future booster seat distribution
• Improve outreach to schools and caregivers
• Support grant reporting and community safety planning
