The Operations Division is the heart of Richland Fire & Emergency Services, made up of 78 firefighters who serve our community around the clock. Our crews work a 48/96 schedule: two consecutive 24-hour shifts on duty, followed by four days off, ensuring consistent coverage at all six fire stations. Each station is staffed by three rotating shifts, with a minimum three-person crew always ready to respond.
Every firefighter at RF&ES is licensed through the Washington State Department of Health as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher. Our EMTs provide high-quality patient care under the direction of the Regional Medical Program Director, Dr. Kevin Hodges.
As of 2025, the Operations Division includes:
- One Deputy Chief
- Three Battalion Chiefs
- 18 Captains
- Nine Lieutenants
- 48 Firefighters
In addition, two Battalion Chiefs, three Captains, and two Firefighters lead our internal and external risk divisions, focusing on safety and specialized response.
All firefighters at RF&ES are proud members of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1052.
